Paul Van Wormer is an international touring saxophonist and producer who resides in the Central Florida area. He began his musical career playing the piano when he was 7 years old. When he was 12 years old, he started playing the saxophone when he joined his middle school jazz band. At this young age, Paul decided that he wanted to further his musical eduction and technical ability, so he began taking lessons with accomplished saxophonist, and Orlando native at the time, Ryan Devlin. Paul studied with Ryan Devlin for almost 6 years before he began studying jazz at a University level, and credits Ryan as being a huge influence for his playing. Throughout his time in middle school and high school, Paul was regularly chosen for honor, or “All County”, bands. When he was a senior in high school he was selected to play lead tenor saxophone in the Florida All State Jazz Band. During Paul’s junior and senior years of high school, he spent his free time playing lead alto saxophone in the FSYO (Florida Youth Symphony Orchestras) Jazz band.
Paul began studying Jazz Performance at the University of Central Florida in 2020 and completed his Bachelor of Music with an emphasis on Jazz Performance in 2024. During his time at UCF, he studied regularly with Yamaha Performing Artist, Jeff Rupert. Under the direction of Jeff Rupert, Paul performed in The Flying Horse Big Band all 4 years during his time in college. With the Flying Horse Big Band, Paul shared the stage with guest artists and faculty members such as: Eric Alexander, Wycliffe Gordon, Jason Marsalis, Michael Dease, Clarence Penn, and even George Garzone at the JEN (Jazz Education Network) Confrence in Orlando, Florida. Paul also recorded three records with the Flying Horse Big Band, their latest release being “A Message from the Flying Horse Big Band” where he plays lead alto saxophone.
Shortly after graduated from UCF, Paul began touring with Joey Fatone (from *NSYNC) and AJ McLean (from Backstreet Boys) for their “A Legendary Night” tour. During this tour the ALN band played venues such as: The Ryman, The Salt Shed, The Capitol Theatre, The OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino, The Factory, The MGM Grand National Harbor, and many others. Paul began playing with Joey Fatone in 2021 when the musical director, Ken Gustafson, asked him to play saxophone with the Fatone’s band. Ken Gustafson also happens to be Paul’s first ever piano teacher, and is the person that got him interested in music when he was only 7 years old. Through working with Joey Fatone, Paul has shared the stage with other musical celebrities such as: Debbie Gibson, Lance Bass and Chris Kirkpatrick of *NSYNC, Montell Jordan (“This is how we do it”), Shawn Stockman and Wayna Morris of Boyz II Men, Jean Rodriguez (Luis Fonzi’s brother, bg Vox for Marc Anthony, etc), and even Murr from “Impractical Jokers”.
