The three sound profiles
Smoky — dark and warm
- Chamber: large trapezoidal chamber, short table (straight baffle on bass)
- Sound: soft, dark, warm tone, with extra stability in the upper register
- Suits: players after a mellow, classical-leaning sound
Steady — centered and balanced
- Chamber: small rectangular chamber, medium table (slight step baffle on bass)
- Sound: centered, medium-bright tone with balanced power
- Suits: players who move between styles and want one piece that fits most situations
Spark — bright and powerful
- Chamber: round chamber on Bb (a rare geometry), rectangular chamber with step baffle on bass
- Sound: clean, bright tone with strong projection
- Suits: jazz, big band and any setting where you need to cut through
Bb or bass clarinet
Both instruments get the same three profiles, tuned to their own chamber and baffle design rather than a scaled-down copy of the Bb piece. The Bb range runs tip openings 4–7 across the three models; the bass range runs 5–8. Each mouthpiece ships in your choice of solid color — Phantom Blue, Pitch Black, Arctic White, Lava Orange, Sea Blue, Carmine Red, Forest Green, Anthracite Metal, Mystic Purple or Mellow Yellow — or a two-tone finish for a small additional cost.
Originals vs. Signature vs. Custom
Originals sit at the entry point of Syos's clarinet range. Signature mouthpieces are co-designed with touring artists and named after them; Custom mouthpieces are built from a player's own measurements and playing style — both cost more than Originals. Originals give you the same 3D printed manufacturing and the same three tonal directions, pre-designed and ready to ship, for players who want a dependable upgrade without going through a full custom fitting.
FAQ
What are Syos Originals clarinet mouthpieces?
They're easy-to-play, 3D printed, pre-designed clarinet mouthpieces from Syos, sold in three fixed tone profiles — Smoky, Steady and Spark — for both Bb and bass clarinet. Unlike Syos's Custom range, they don't require a fitting session.
Are Syos Originals mouthpieces easy to play?
Yes — that's the point of the range. Each profile pairs a chamber and baffle tuned for a free-blowing, stable response, so there's no adjustment period like there can be with a custom-fit piece.
What's the difference between Smoky, Steady and Spark?
Smoky uses a large trapezoidal chamber for a soft, dark tone. Steady uses a small rectangular chamber for a centered, versatile tone. Spark uses a round chamber (Bb) or a rectangular chamber with a step baffle (bass) for a bright, powerful tone.
How much do Syos Originals clarinet mouthpieces cost?
Pricing is shown in your local currency on each product page (it varies by country) — two-tone finishes cost a little more than solid colors.
Are Originals available for bass clarinet, not just Bb?
Yes. All three profiles — Smoky, Steady and Spark — come in both a Bb clarinet and a bass clarinet version, each with its own chamber and baffle tuned for that instrument.
What tip openings are available?
Two tip openings per model: Bb Smoky in 4 and 5, Bb Steady in 5 and 6, Bb Spark in 6 and 7; bass Smoky in 5 and 6, bass Steady in 6 and 7, bass Spark in 7 and 8.
How is an Originals mouthpiece different from a Signature or Custom Syos mouthpiece?
Signature mouthpieces are co-designed with a specific artist and carry their name. Custom mouthpieces are built from a player's own measurements. Originals use the same 3D printing process but come in three pre-set tone profiles, so there's no design or fitting step involved.
