Very powerful with great projection; altissimo pops out easily and staccato has a brassy incisiveness. Perfect for electric contexts with synths and guitars. A bit too bright, edgy, and buzzy for my taste but that's the natural trade-off to get all the pluses above.

First time gigging with my Scott Paddock SYOS in my ska band last night.From the first time playing, I knew it had a nice bright tone, but once mic'd up at a gig and giving it some - what a difference! The sound really cut through and was so much brighter and with a nice buzzy edge compared to my modified otto link.A fellow sax player approached me after the gig and asked how I achieved such a great ska sound. I had gone up a step in the tip opening too, but it blowed really well. Nearly blew the FH speakers on Nightboat to Cairo! Need to work on quiet dynamics, esp. bottom register. But really pleased...am going to have some fun with this!

I needed a piece that would give more cutting power when the guitars get toooo loud at the local blues jam. The Syos - Scott Paddock #9 does the trick!

Got a Scott Paddock signature mouthpiece - reasonably quick delivery and adequate packaging. Put it on, played a few notes and thought, “This was a huge mistake.” Sounded shrill, it was hard to control and not even close to the sound I was hoping for. I gave it three weeks, playing it daily for about an hour. Turns out it’s exactly what I was hoping it would be. It’s bright and now that I know how to place and play it, not shrill. Given the inspiration, I expected (and got) more range and control on the high end, but I was pleasantly surprised at the great low end. It’s a bright mouthpiece but there’s oompf in the low notes. It did take time to get used to the really light weight of the mouthpiece itself and I found that my Legere American Cut worked better than my beloved Signature reeds. If you order a Syos, use the full trial period (which should be longer) before you decide. I’m glad I did. All that said, it should come with a matching cap

I needed a powerful mouthpiece that blows freely and this mouthpiece gave me exactly that.

The most significant problem I have with this mouthpiece is that when I attempt to get into tune, the mouthpiece needs to be pulled out on the neck to where it is not stable at the end of the neck.
The other issue is getting my low notes to come out effortlessly. Is this a function of tip opening?

Je suis content de ce bec. Je l'avais choisi car je joue dans un brass band et qu'il m'est parfois difficile de me faire entendre au milieu des cuivres.
Ce bec a un son puissant et percutant, les attaques sont très précises, la petite chambre offre beaucoup de souplesse et il est facile à maitriser.
Je suis passé d'une ouverture 7 à 7* pour ce nouveau bec (je jouais un steady 7 avant). Je n'ai même pas eu besoin de baisser en force d'anche en concert vu que je souffle plus fort. J'utilise une anche légère american cut 2.5, j'ai un peu plus de résistance par rapport au steady et parfois je prends une anche 2.25 quand je joue à la maison vu que je souffle moins fort.
Je me suis habitué très rapidement à ce bec, je ne regrette pas mon achat !

Very happy with my alto mouthpiece , but struggling with tenor one . Upper range is the struggle, lower notes fine .

This mouthpiece has the tone, ease of playing and comfort level that I expect in tenor mouthpieces and after 4 weeks of playing it I am very happy with the power, tone and intonation of it. I am a bit of a crazy mouthpiece person. I am finally very happy with this product.

I was quite nervous whether it would be the right one for my playing style but I was pleasantly surprised how it plays. It’s lovely and bright and plays well across the instrument. I am very happy and satisfied. It’s now my first choice mouthpiece. Well done SYOS.

My Syos mouthpiece exceeded my expectations

It's too narrow and fits way too tight on the neck. Way tighter than all my other mouthpieces (Yanagisawa, Vandoren TL4, Otto Link Tone Edge).

I gained a lot of ground when I upgraded to my Jody Jazz Jet 7 a few years ago and I didn't think the Syos could really improve my sound quality; however, I was pleasantly surprised. The Syos plays easier and gives me better control in the altissimo range. I still love my Jody Jazz for everything it has done for my playing, but the Syos, seems to be my go to mouthpiece now. The only negative for me is the Carbon Fiber Fiberreed that I typically use seems to be a bit too razzy, I have changed over to a FiberCell composite and that seems to have warmed up the sound. Everyone is different and reeds are a personal choice. Thanks for a great mouthpiece!

Intonation is excellent. I chose a bright,brassy sound mouth piece and found it! I didn't like the ligature though that you can buy for it. It doesn't allow you to position the reed like with a traditional ligature.

I LOVE IT. I USED IT FOR THE FIRST TIME ON STAGE !! OMG. I HAD A FEW PEOPLE COME UP AND ASK ME WHAT I HAVE DONE TO CHANGE MY SOUND. I HAVE A WELL KNOWN Memphis soul band . The horn section really notice the strong sounds coming from my Mk VI . I am really happy with your piece . Thank you !!!
