7 opening, played on a Selmer series II: plays easily and in tune throughout the range of horn. Nice rich sound, especially in the lower notes. I would have liked to see more highs in the sound. I’ve played Bari in a big and for 20+ years, and unfortunately this is not the right mouthpiece, as the sound gets lost. Great for smaller combo, solo work, or even classical. It sounds great with a low A mk vi Bari, and I think it wold work very well with older Bb baritones. I like this mpc, and like playing it.

I got the Smokey 5 Bari mouthpiece for playing Bari sax in a wind ensemble. It is perfect! The whole horn responds wonderfully from top to bottom with even intonation and beautiful tone!!
Répond à mon attente point de vue son.
Par contre tient mal sur le bocal malgré un nouveau liège.
Il manque 1cm de longueur au bec.
Ce bec correspond à mon besoin de pouvoir jouer directement sans chauffer l’instrument (j’utilise une anche fibereed) et dans un volume sonore très bas. Je consacre ce bec pour le jeu en théâtre et accompagnement de voix narrative.
Seul reproche que je lui fais; les aigus manquent de définitions et de clarté.
Après avoir testé de nombreux becs, le smoking répond au delà de mes souhaits : facilité de jeu et son moelleux comme je cherchais. Bravo SYOS!!!
Pretty cool mouthpiece
Globalement satisfait après un mois d'utilisation régulière, facilité d'émission, timbre conforme à mon attente mais le diamètre du bec me pose problème pour la justesse du son. Je dois en effet le sortir de façon importante pour être juste. J'attend de changer le liège mais l'usage d'un bec Otto Link risque de perpétuer le problème. A voir ...
J'en profite pour signaler une difficulté qui m'a contraint de renvoyer un bec d'alto (Dan Forshaw) car il m'était impossible d'enfoncer suffisamment le bec pour être juste.

I love to play with the smokey mouthpiece. It has a nice smooth sound, covers all ranges well and responds very nicely to cool jazz, as well as classical, also with plastic reeds from légère. I shall now also try the steady formate and expand my sound possibilities with that.

Commandé pour jouer du classique et autres morceaux "soft"en harmonie.
Il fait exactement le boulot : un son doux et un volume facile à contrôler avec une ouverture moyenne.
Par contre bien sûr, je suis obligé de changer de bec pour les morceaux jazz, variété etc... il n'a ni le son ni la puissance pour ça mais c'est normal.

I ordered this along with a few others to try with my new P Mauriat bari. I tried some other brands, as well, but doesn’t seem they cater to people who need a 5 tip opening. My previous experience with Syos was their great attention to crafting custom mouthpieces for my old bari and current tenor (both vintage horns) for their specific issues. Syos to the rescue again! Any tip opening a person could want, and any kind of sound you need (or create your own!). I could choose favorite colors, try a few signature mouthpieces, and try their basic 3 (Smoky, Steady, Spark). I found Smoky to be perfect for concert band, church orchestra, and more sedate settings. It is warm and smooth and rich and brings out the best of my sax. It was playable from the minute I tried, and I enjoyed the full range of notes with no extra work and no intonation issues. Having something that is comfortable for you and the horn is paramount. This is perfect! I also needed to use it for a jazz gig because I received it before the others. It’s very useable for a big band, but for my horn, I find a brighter mouthpiece to work better so the trumpets don’t drown out the bari. I give this 10 gold stars, and I give Syos 12 gold stars for great customer service!
Easy to play, smooth and dark.
I really enjoy playing the Smoky baritone mouthpiece. It is very balanced through the registers. I like the resistance and altissimo is virtually effortless.
Not a big bari user but after using my new smoky SYOS mouthpiece I will be using it far more!

It has the same density and feel as hard rubber, but without the toxic components used in hard rubber production.
