This is a very interesting mouthpiece. I now have a Smoky, a Steady, and this Spark for my sopranos. I ordered the Spark out of curiosity based on my experience with the Smoky and Steady. I tend to gravitate to large chamber, low/rollover baffle mouthpieces. And, frankly, the Smoky fills that bill quite nicely. I decided to try the Spark out of curiosity, to "test" the whole range. What a pleasant surprise. I did not find this mouthpiece to be "like Kenny Gee's" sound at all (which is fine with me). It seems much darker to me, very close in warmth to the Smoky. But, it also offers a clarity, or a crispness to that nice, warm, full tone. It is easier to play fast than either the Smoky or Steady -- crisper articulation. It does cut through, but still offers a nice, dark tone. So now I have problem. I have 3 very nice, very useable Syos mouthpieces. What am I going to do with that drawer full of "other" mouthpieces I can't see a need to ever use again?

I went to a local music shop to compare other mouthpiece brands with my new soprano saxophone if I could find even a better option for my Syos models but I could not find anything better!

Spark is better when you need to cut through the band in a more upbeat song (brighter sound) and Steady is my choice for more peaceful songs (more mellow sound). I have both models and I am happy. I am using size 6 at least for now.

I have played tenor saxophone for about 35 years and alto for 2 years. I sold my last soprano saxophone about 20 years ago, but now I just recently bought to me a P Mauriat System 76 II edition soprano saxophone. First I used the mouthpiece that came along with the soprano but quite soon after I ordered these two mouthpieces from Syos. And that is all I needed.

I have wanted to try this type of mouthpiece for a long time. The choice is very wide, the descriptions of the models know how to guide you to what you might need. I'm seriously considering getting a Syos for my saxophone too. We'll see...

Pas déçu de mon choix. Déjà convaincu de mon spark sur Ténor j'ai hésité entre les différents modèles originaux. Je suis comblé, ! Projection sans pareil, facilité d'émition et ce n'était pas simple puisque c'est la première fois que je joue du soprano. Son magnifique, je l'utilise au sein d'une fanfare de rue inspirée des Balkans ainsi que dans un groupe punk rock musette Le sax était équipé d un S90 qui ne peut tenir la comparaison tellement il est loin sur toute la taiciture.
Syos for ever! Seul bémol le coût, identique a un ténor et les accessoires également.
Je joue mon Spark 6 avec une anche légère american cut en 2.25...ca envoie grave !!

Comme expliqué par Pauline dans une récente news letter, le Spark n'est pas facile à jouer (surtout pour un "débutant") et c'est ce que j'ai expérimenté... J'ai dû descendre la force d'anche que j'utilise habituellement, de 3 à 2,5, puis 2, pour un son vraiment pas bon (mon embouchure n'est pour l'instant pas assez solide). Donc le Spark j'ai plutôt galéré avec :-( Donc j'ai échangé assez vite avec un Steady, et là c'est nettement mieux ! Je peux jouer avec mes Rico N°3, le son est bien. Je subodore quand même que ce bec a besoin d'être maitrisé, j'ai un peu de mal à choper les mib, mi et fa d'en haut... mais je ne désespère pas :-) Au final j'aime bien mon Steady. Un petit regret quand même, j'aurais bien essayé le Smoky, mais pas envie de renvoyer mon Steady pour le récupérer éventuellement plus tard parce que le Smoky ne m'irait pas. Et puis ne dit-on pas que le mieux est l'ennemi du bien ? ;-) Un petit bémol : ma ligature Selmer a tendance à laisser des traces grises sur mon bec blanc... Du coup peut-être devrais je essayer la ligature Syos ?
