Best mouthpiece I’ve ever used. Purchased the smoky in a seven tip opening for tenor sax and definitely plan on getting a custom one down the line.
I already play a SYOS, insaneintherain, signature 7 Tenor mouthpiece that I use when playing in a 30+piece orchestra.
I love the sound, power and projection it gives me in that setting.
I wanted a different piece for mellow ballads, solos and practice so I added the Smoky 5.
I expected great things from it, and I was not disappointed.
The darker sound, control and effortless playing through all registers are the experiences I was hoping for in the Smoky, and it delivered it all.
The Smoky makes me want to play more, and more, and more.
I thought I would have to use a stronger reed on the Smoky, like I did on my other SYOS tenor piece, but I was surprised.
I have several different reed strengths and the 1.5 is the perfect match for my Smoky. I kept trying the 1.5 and 2, but the 1.5 just make the sound flow. It just feels, and sounds, right.
So my insaneintherain has a little brother now and both are sea blue.
AWESOME , this mouthpiece has become an extention of who I am allowing my personal characteristics to blend musically.

I'm very satisfied, it's what I've been looking for a long time, a warm, round but powerful sound at the same time uniform across all registers.
C'est le 1er bec syos que j'ai acheté, en ouverture 5, et c'est très bien, extrémement facile à jouer, le son est pas mal, c'est jazzy et polyvalent.
J'ai recomparé avec d'autres becs, selmer ou autres, et je reviens toujours â celui là.
J'ai le meilleur son avec la ligature cuir épais vandoren + anches vandoren 3 jazz ou anche gonzales jazz n°3.
A présent j'ai commandé un syos max ionata n°7 mais je crois que je vais garder ce smoky comme un bec de référence.
Meilleur équilibre - son plus rond que mes becs métal précédents et surtout je peux enfin atteindre les notes graves du Ténor ... Enorme progrès...
J'utilise un bec chinois Kenne Jazz et j'ai acheté mon premier smoky original Syos. Je n'ai rien remarqué de très différent de ce que disent certains saxophonistes. À tel point que de nombreux saxophonistes demandent que leur modèle spécifique soit fabriqué et qu'à la fin, Syos se retrouve avec de nombreux modèles différents et un saxophoniste ne peut pas essayer quel modèle lui convient le mieux. Je pense que c'est un point négatif.
J'ai trouvé le numéro 8 fermé.
Lors de mon prochain achat, j'essaierai un Vandorem.
I use a Chinese kenne jazz mouthpiece and bought my first Syos original smoky. I didn't notice anything very different from what some saxophonists say. So much so that many saxophonists ask for their specific model to be made and in the end Syos ends up with many different models and a saxophonist cannot try out which model is best for them. I think this is a negative point.
I found number 8 closed.
On my next purchase I will try a Vandorem.

Nous faisons des becs sur-mesure justement pour faire des becs bien adaptés au saxophoniste et à ses gouts. Cela fonctionne plutot bien, nous avons beaucoup de retours positifs et de gens tres contents. Je serais intéressée de savoir pourquoi vous dites que c est un point négatif?

C'est le 5eme bec Syos que j'achète. Leur conception est vraiment exceptionnelle. J'ai enfin trouvé les becs qui m'ont permis d'obtenir le son, l'expressivité et la facilité de jeu que je recherchais depuis des années avec d'autres marques très connues et aussi beaucoup plus onéreuses. Je le joue avec un ténor yanagisawa T991 et un Conn 10M. J'espère que vous aurez un jour pour projet de créer également un bocal qui permette d'obtenir un son Vintage façon Conn Martin etc .. avec des sax modernes. Bravo encore pour votre ingénierie.
This is now my go to tenor mouthpiece, although it hasn't turned me into Stan Getz yet 🤣. Free blowing with a nice dark tone but can go loud when needed.

Ho iniziato da pochi mesi fa a studiare il sax (tenore). Come molti, ho iniziato l'imboccatura in dotazione (il sax è un Yamaha YTS62). Ho incontrato molte difficoltà nel produrre un suono accettabile. Ho provato anche qualche imboccatura alternativa per poco tempo ma senza miglioramenti significativi. Infine ho provato il vostro Syos Smokey (apertura 5). Il mio miglioramento è stato istantaneo: poca fatica, molti meno errori, più espressività, più facilità agli estremi di gamma. Il commento nel mio maestro è stato: "non mollare più quel Syos e tienitelo bello stretto"....Grazie Syos

What a lovely mouth piece, I am using a Java Red, Gonzalez and Légère Reed and although the Tenor horn is new to me I opted for the tip opening 7 as my Alto is a 6 so it will give me some growth. Happy with my sound
After years of playing a well known HR* mouthpiece, I just could not prevent a build up of saliva between the reed and the rollover baffle after a few minutes of playing. None of the usual clearing techniques worked for me - that spitty sound just kept on coming back. So I thought I'd try the Smoky with its step baffle - and what a difference! Same tip opening (7), same reeds (Vandoren ZZ 2.5) and I still get the warm sound I'm used to, without the gurgling. If there is any saliva build up during long passages, the usual clearing techniques work as they should do. There was also another benefit of moving to the Smoky which I was not expecting - the tone profile over the range of the tenor is now much more even. I'm absolutely delighted, and my jazz journey can now continue. A big thank you to Pauline and Maxime for their advice along the way.

Très satisfait de ce bec que j’ai fait réaliser avec 10 mm de plus en longueur pour une bonne tenue sur le bocal de mon Conn M10 Naked Lady de 1935. Comme tous les bec Syos grande facilité d’émission sur tout le registre et grande amplitude entre pianissimo et double forté… il y a de la réserve de puissance ! Encore en phase de test d’anches pour trouver le son mat et gras que je recherche … rentre dans mon trio de bec entre mon Berg Larsen bronze et l’Otto Link Tone Edge, reste à en tirer le meilleur 😜
