César Vidal is a Chilean saxophonist, composer, and improviser based in Amsterdam. His background combines classical composition, jazz, and improvisation. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Composition from the University of Chile and a Master’s degree in Jazz Saxophone from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where he studied with Ben van Gelder and Simon Rigter.
He has collaborated with musicians from different generations of the Chilean scene and participated in award-winning recordings such as Chincol (2020) and CODEX Big Band (2022), both recipients of the Pulsar Award (Chile). He has performed at venues and festivals including the BIMHUIS in Amsterdam, Getxo Jazz, JazzBer, and La Fête de la Musique.
His recent releases include NUBES, Flor de Loto, and the EP Des Visages. He currently leads César Vidal & Artikulation Band, a modern jazz quartet with real-time electronics, which won second prize at the 2025 Getxo Jazz Ensemble Competition and opened for Cécile McLorin Salvant.
