Biography
Mariela Mulder (née Versola) is an American saxophonist based in Sydney, Australia. She has toured internationally with the Anthony Stanco Ensemble and has appeared at venues like Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola - Jazz at Lincoln Center (New York City), the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Center (Kuwait), the US Embassy (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia), The Crypt (Cape Town, South Africa), and the Detroit International Jazz Festival.
In the 2018 DownBeat Magazine Student Music Awards, Mariela’s quartet won “Best Latin Group” and her arrangement of traditional South African song “Shosholoza” won “Outstanding Small Group Arrangement” in the graduate category. Since moving to Australia in 2019 Mariela has performed with the Sydney Women’s Jazz Collective (Pharos), the Dave Panichi Big Band, the South Coast Big Band, Deva Permana’s Sydney Fusion Jazz Jam, Disco Revolution Australia, and Reuben Kaye.
