Working with Pauline in implementing the production of an “ideal” sound is an very enriching, fun and inspiring experience. What offers Syos, except for the wonderful opportunity of a custom-made mouthpiece, is a fascinating process of exchange, definition, experiment, adjustment, which accompanies the building of the mouthpiece and turns it into a very privileged moment for every musician.

Biography
For more than 10 years, Ophonius develop his musical atmosphere around original compositions, bringing a personnal reading of current music. Impulese: it's the word than define the most the quintet's music. First outstretched, like a bridge thrown between jazz fields and the far lands of the world music. Then bending on soft and warm melodies.
The blow, cornestone of the saxophone trio, melt into a polychrome sound scheme, at the crossing of jazz, improvisation and art music. The drummer Fabien Eckert, invited on the second album, and the bassist Olivier Battle more recently, joined the band to bring the percussive energy of jazz into the music of the saxophone trio.
Ophonius played in many festivals like Europa Jazz, Les Rendez-vous de l'Erdre, Jazz Altitude Festival, Alma Jazz festival... Two albums have been recorded: Helvetic Atlas (2004) and L'Azur du Globe (2008), the third is currently under preparation.
The musicians of the band (including two researcher in acoustics passionnate about music) also present their music through the Scientific concerts, a pedagogical musical journey in the world of physics and acoustics.

The Syos mouthpieces are hands down my favorite mouthpieces I’ve ever played. I was able to spend time with the company to dial in the baffle and intonation of the mouthpieces to best fit my horn and my sound. No longer will I have to go through the painful process of trying countless mouthpieces to find the right fit. And to know that I’m playing a 3D-printed mouthpiece from the future is a welcome perk! Syos work is interesting because it mixes a new technologic expertise - in mutation - and a great sensitivity to the musicians expectations/aspirations. The process which led to the mouthpiece I am playing today taught me a lot and is very introspective for a saxophonist because it forces him to formulate and define what he is looking for and all along the steps to correct and sharpen an acoustic desire which is a team work between the musician – his aspirations, qualities and defaults – and Syos team represented by Maxime and Pauline. As often the path you take to reach the goal is as important as the goal itself.

I found with Syos a mouthpiece that I had been searching for a long time. Thanks to Pauline’s expertise and imagination, I now have a tool with unique and personalized acoustical characteristics, with great flexibility and consistent with my equipment. Syos process, completely new as it appears, has a lot of advantages, especially to provide each musician with a custom-made mouthpiece, reproductible and original. Moreover Pauline knows how to translate the sound wishes into parameters of the mouthpiece geometry, so that the result is often really close to the musician’s initial idea.
