Continuing our look back at ten years of Syos, 2019 took us from Japan to Brooklyn — with a rather wild detour along the way.
The G20 Young Entrepreneurs' summit in Japan, and workshops across Asia
I had the privilege of being invited to join the French delegation at the G20 Young Entrepreneurs' summit in Fukuoka, Japan. I took the opportunity to organise several workshops in Japan and South Korea, which turned out far more successful than I'd imagined! I had a wonderful time and got to meet Daniel Ko, Sunjae Lee, Yu Kuga and many other artists!
The Crazy Roulette, our wildest offer ever
2019 was also the year of the wildest offer we've ever come up with at Syos: the Crazy Roulette! It was a special deal where you could get a mouthpiece at 50% off — but in a random colour. It ran for just 48 hours, and we received hundreds of orders, something that had never happened before. It took us more than three weeks to make and ship them all, but in the end everyone was really happy, and it was great fun watching all the unboxing videos of people discovering their colour on social media!
A Crazy Roulette day made even crazier: Tivon Pennicott and Gregory Porter
The launch day turned completely crazy. Right as the offer went live, I got a call from Tivon Pennicott telling me he was in Paris for the recording of Gregory Porter's new album, and that Gregory wanted him to play soprano. He was at the Sax Machine workshop renting a saxophone, but he needed a mouthpiece. I loaded all my mouthpieces into my backpack, jumped on the metro and met him there. He tried them and found one that suited him well. We shared a taxi over to Studio Saint-Germain, and took the chance to film a short video to present the offer:
Then I got to sit in on the recording of this wonderful song — with a wonderful soprano solo, played on a Syos mouthpiece, of course :)

Back to New York: Brooklyn workshops and our first Syos concert
I also went back to New York, where I'd rented a loft in Brooklyn and organised several workshops with Dayna Stephens, Tivon Pennicott, Chelsea Baratz and others — it was all really fascinating. And I also put on the very first Syos concert in New York, at the Jazz Gallery, with Chelsea Baratz, Tivon Pennicott, Zem Audu, Jure Pukl, Tomoaki Baba and Eden Bareket. It was a special night.
