So sang George Benson (and Whitney Houston). « Teach them well and let them lead the way »
Not just great song lyrics, but a philosophy Syos shares with professional musician and instrument teacher Paul of Silverfoxmusique in sunny SW France.
Paul came to me with a suggestion to help give more youngsters a hands-on first experience in playing and falling in love with the clarinet and saxophone through discovery workshops, where potential new students get to not just hear and learn about these wonderful instruments, but to actually try them.
So Syos sent Paul 6 mouthpieces for the taster workshops he runs at the Ecole de Musique in Créon and the kids had a blast. Literally!
Paul said:
"It’s great to work with the next generation of young musicians and to see their wonderful enthusiasm. In a musical world with so many choices there is no substitute for letting them experience and have fun playing a clarinet or saxophone themselves.
That has always been difficult for hygiene reasons – especially post-pandemic - but with the help of Syos each participant can have a sterilised mouthpiece with a plastic reed, learn how to form an embouchure and blow their very first notes ! Many thanks to Pauline and the team at Syos for their generous support ! "
From the photos it’s clear that there was lots of excitement and plenty of smiles all round. Bravo to the participants and the school for nurturing future young clarinetists and saxophonists!
Whatever your stage of playing Syos has a mouthpiece that will help you. And as the song says…
“Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be!”
