Claudia Medina

The sound of my instruments is the most important for me. For years, my main goal was to have the best mouthpieces to represent my own personality in each of my saxophones and to be unique both as a musician and as a person. SYOS gave me the opportunity to build my own signature mouthpieces and to achieve the combination of quality sound and flexibility in my playing.

Biography

Claudia is an experienced female saxophone player, composer, arranger, educator and producer from Peru. Medina is the founder of FROM PERÚ TO THE WORLD, a worldwide educational program. She studied classical music at the National Conservatory of Peru and received a scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA, where she is currently majoring in Jazz Composition and Performance.

For her dedication to the Peruvian Music in the USA, she received an award from the Peruvian Consulate in Paterson, New Jersey in 2016. Medina also performed with very important and recognized Peruvian musicians as Grammy Winner Susana Baca, Oscar Stagnaro, Aida Cuevas, among others. Claudia has also collaborated with many Berklee students, in addition to playing with Greg Phillinganes, keyboardist of Michael Jackson’s solo tours, in the last Master Class he offered at the Berklee College of Music in February 2018.

Medina is the founder and leader of Claudia Medina's Peruvian Project, which offers a fusion of Jazz, Peruvian and Afro-Peruvian music with Latin American rhythms. In addition, Claudia has participated in musical theater productions such as Sweet Charity (2014), Musical 2015 (2015) and Déjame Que Te Cuente the first original Peruvian musical in honor of Chabuca Granda (2017) for which she also recorded all saxophones and flute. Medina also performed with very important and recognized Peruvian musicians as Grammy Winner Susana Baca, Oscar Stagnaro and Eva Ayllon, among others.

Claudia is the winner of the Inspirational Woman 2019 in the category of Outstanding artist by Latinas Center Maria in Lynn, Massachusetts in 2019 and received the TUMI USA AWARD in the category of arts in Connecticut in 2019.
