Biography
While studying French horn at the Curtis Institute, Robert Martin also worked as a top call studio musician on countless hit records for Gamble & Huff and The Sound Of Philadelphia.
After moving to Los Angeles in the mid-70’s, he began touring with top stars like Etta James on the 1978 Rolling Stones Tour. He joined Frank Zappa’s band in 1981 and played on every Zappa tour from that point on.
He has also recorded, toured, and/or performed with Prince, Paul McCartney, The Moody Blues, Bette Midler (Musical Director), Michael McDonald, Patti LaBelle, David Sanborn, and a long list of other famous artists.
Robert played keyboards, horns, sang backing vocals, arranged, mixed and co-produced Wilson Pickett's 1987 Grammy nominated album on Motown, American Soul Man. He has also composed for major network TV shows.
