Continuing our look back at ten years of Syos, here's 2017 — a year of firsts.

The first album recorded on a Syos mouthpiece

On March 2, 2017 — my birthday, as it happens — the first album recorded with a Syos mouthpiece was released: Sons of Love, by Thomas de Pourquery and his band Supersonic.

I was so proud — and the album really is beautiful. I can only recommend it if you haven't listened to it yet. My favourite track is Mermaids; I had it on repeat all year.

Our first time on television

Thomas de Pourquery was also part of our first television experience! We got a spot on the M6 evening news, one of France's major channels.

Rock en Seine: sneaking in with a backpack full of mouthpieces

Rock en Seine, one of France's biggest festivals, in 2017. I was in touch with Terry Edwards, who was playing with PJ Harvey that evening — I'm a big fan of indie rock and she's one of my favourite artists, so quite the opportunity! I showed up at the festival with a backpack full of mouthpieces. The people checking bags weren't too impressed, but I made it in anyway!

I managed to find Terry in the crowd during Timber Timbre's set (honestly, it was easy — he was the only person in a suit!). We headed backstage at the main stage to try a few mouthpieces. He loved them! We had to stop because The Kills were about to play (I love that band too, so watching them from the stage was wild 😎). And a few hours later, Terry was playing his blue Syos mouthpiece during PJ Harvey's set!

A feature in 01net

Around the same time, we also had a nice feature in the magazine 01net.

Leaving the 104 for premises of our own

At the 104 incubator, our three machines sat in the middle of an open space shared with four other startups — and not everyone was delighted, because the printers do make a fair bit of noise. It was also always tricky to find rooms to run tests with musicians. So even though we didn't have much money at the time, we decided to move into new premises. We had our share of bad surprises during the renovation, but we pulled through in the end.
